Wednesday 24th July - Ciaran Tourish & Kevin Doherty
One of Inishowen’s best known fiddlers, Ciaran Tourish is a musician renowned on the international stage and will headline the first of the series of our summer concerts along with Buncrana songwriter Kevin Doherty on guitar and vocals. The event will take place in Malin Presbyterian church, Lagg, a beautiful venue on the banks of Trawbreaga Bay. Ciaran is a dynamic and powerful fiddler with a great capacity for improvisation and counter harmony. A Buncrana native, he has had an extensive solo career, releasing albums and featuring as a guest on a wide variety of music stretching across many genres. For many years, Ciaran has toured as a member of the celebrated group ‘Altan’. He has worked with many artists such as Matt Molloy, Mary Black, Maura O’Connell, Paul Brady, Mairtin O’Connor and also with American musicians Jerry Douglas, and Tim O’Brien.

Kevin Doherty, vocals and guitar, is a highly respected songwriter and accompanist, having worked with Ciaran in the legendary Buncrana band ‘The Pyros’. He is currently a member of the great band ‘Four Men and a Dog’. He has released several albums during his career.

Last year Ciaran and Kevin released their collaborative cd ‘Hotel Fiesta’ featuring tunes and songs and a number of their own compositions. Seasoned performers of vast experience in concert venues all around the planet, we are proud to stage this homecoming for two sons of Inishowen in what will be a night of fabulous music, songs and fun.

Wednesday 31st July - Patsy Toland, Dermot Toland & Guests
Patsy grew up in Clonmany, an area noted for its culture and rich in music and song, his musical career began with the guitar which he began playing during the folk revival of the sixties. Later on, he took up the banjo and completely self – taught, developed further as a traditional musician during his student days in Dublin while a member of a local group. Teaching in Dublin afforded Patsy opportunities to teach a variety of stringed instruments and most importantly to collaborate and play with a wide variety of friends in the vibrant Dublin musical scene. Mick Denieffe and Brendan Begley were important influences on Patsy. Later on he joined ‘Strings & Things’, a popular acoustic band which was ultimately destined to develop into the Celtic rock band ‘Sirreel’ of whom, the jazz guitarist Eamonn Moran was a further significant mentor in Patsy’s musical education. Gigging in Temple Bar with Roger Mullarkey and later Stephen Fagan continued until he moved back to his roots in Clonmany. Patsy now plays at the local ‘Reel Trad’ sessions and gigs with his brother Dermot.

Patsy will be joined in this concert by his brother Dermot who now resides in West Donegal. Dermot is widely in demand as a guitarist for musicians and singers in traditional music but also in the genre of jazz. A marvellous guitarist with a unique style, Dermot’s tasteful accompaniment and great feel for the music are evident in all his collaborations in performance and recording. Dermot has a long term partnership with Seamus Gibson the great fiddle player from St Johnston.

Evelyn McGonigle, (vocals/whistle) is from Clonmany where music and singing has been respected for many generations and where the tradition continues to develop and prosper. Evelyn learned her singing from her mother and has a wealth of local songs from both her mother and father’s families: the McGonigles and the Gillespies. She was taught the tin whistle by Damhnait Sweeney and has developed her music through sessions with her brother Des and also through playing with local group ‘Reel Trad’.

Wednesday 7th August - Edel McLaughlin & Guests
Edel Mc Laughlin comes from Burnfoot in Inishowen. She studied Music and Arts at UCC, graduating with first class honours. Edel has been highly successful at the Fleadh Cheoil winning the Senior All Ireland title on piano accordion and tin whistle slow airs in 2008 and piano in 2013. Her music has brought her to places including the Shetland Islands, San Francisco, Milwaukee, Norway, Spain and Germany, where she toured with the all-female group, Liadán. Edel recently completed her MA in Irish Traditional Music Performance with First Class Honours at the Irish World Academy, University of Limerick. She has recorded on albums with many artists including Dinny Mc Laughlin, Edel Sullivan, Karl Nesbitt, Josie Nugent and Brian Stafford. Edel is a magnificent musician with a vast repertoire and a passion for music which is all consuming. Her great personality and joy for music is apparent in all her wonderful performances over the years. Edel is a great ambassador for the music of Inishowen and we warmly look forward to her concert with her musical friends.

Edel will be joined by Joleen Mc Laughlin from the ‘Henry Girls’. Joleen plays harp and piano and is highly regarded for her accompaniment on both instruments and her arrangements in music. Edel will also be joined by Jack Warnock. Jack is a young multi-instrumentalist and singer from Co.Derry. Jack has many accolades and credits to his name among them his nominated for BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Music Award 2018.

Wednesday 14th August - Paul McClure, Shane Devlin & Gabriel D.Gigis
Paul McClure hails from Buncrana. A consummate performer, he is equally adept and brilliant and on both piano accordion and bodhran Now based in Galway, he is an active musician and teacher throughout the county. He has travelled to France, Italy, Spain, Denmark and the UK where he performs and teaches regularly. Having guested on several albums to date, Paul has also gained success at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann with three All Ireland titles on piano accordion and bodhran in 2006, 2007 and 2012. He has a great deal of experience as a solo performer and as a member of many groups and collaborations.

Shane Devlin from Clonmany, now also residing in Galway after a brief hiatus, is no stranger to the city’s fruitful music scene. His versatility as a banjo and mandolinist can be accredited to his interest and love of other genres including folk and bluegrass. Shane is a powerful player and accompanist brimming with ideas and musical possibilities and has been immersed in music all his life.
Gabriel G. moved to Galway 15 years ago. He is a multi – instrumentalist and composer, working with independent directors since 2015. Most recently he composed the soundtrack to ‘The Connemara National Park’ documentary. He has toured extensively around Europe and is currently involved with several projects including Grian, John Coneelly inc. and the Gabriel G. Band.

This night will mark the final concert of the summer series and what a fantastic line up of musicians to draw down the curtain once more on what is sure to be another wonderful summer of music in Inishowen!!

Cineál
ITMP is delighted that Cineál is providing support each night at the Summer Concert Series. Cineál are an incredible group of young musicians who made a massive impression on concert goers in our summer concerts last year (2018).

Formed in 2018, Cineál are a group of young musicians from Inishowen ranging in age from 18-20. They represent a fresh approach to our living tradition. Along with traditional music from the area ITMP is delighted that Hamish Napier and Jarlath Henderson have agreed to compose new music for Cineál again this year. The new commission will be added to the wealth of new and older music from the archives dating back to the 1700’s.
