About the Inishowen Traditional Music Project
ITMP is a non-profit making organisation run by a voluntary committee of people who share a love of traditional music. The committee includes musicians, music teachers and others with a keen interest in the music of the Inishowen area.
The ITMP was founded in 1999 with a remit to preserve and promote Irish traditional music in the Inishowen peninsula.
We do this work in a number of ways, such as:
- Teaching of children and adults
- Workshops
- Collaborations
- Commissions
- Concerts and event performance
- Music sessions
- Collecting and archiving
We see collecting and preserving the music of the past as an important in itself, as a record of the music, musicians and singers who have formed the tradition. This work also helps to reveal the influences that shaped the style of the music played in Inishowen.
The ITMP is funded through fundraising events and voluntary contributions. Over the years we have received grant aid from Inishowen Development Project, the Arts Council of Ireland, Donegal County Council and the Ireland Fund.
We invite you to contribute any information or photos that would help piece together our cultural heritage and expand the knowledge content of the site. Please use our contact form to get in touch.
